Smola Sugar is a family owned and operated organic maple farm pursued by love, passion and family roots.
Husband and wife team Jason and Amy Smola were both raised in the forests of central Wisconsin. They both spent their childhoods making maple syrup with their families, surrounded by those they love most. It seemed only natural that they carry on this family tradition with their own family and raise their children continuing this tradition.
Jason grew up watching his family work in the woods as loggers, hunters, and stewards of the land. Following high school Jason embarked on his first business endeavor and invested in his first pulp truck. After a couple of years hauling the family logging companies’ timber, Jason felt ambitious and grew his company into a multi truck fleet hauling different product and diversified his company. Now owning a logging and trucking company, Jason works hard with foresters to ensure that healthy forest management is the main priority for them in the industry.
Amy was raised deep in the woods and spent her upbringing with adventurous parents. They taught her and her sibling an appreciation for the land God made and how to treat it with the greatest respect and encouraged them to explore it. Traveling our nations national parks is a great passion of Amy’s and she loves to share this passion with family and friends. She believes in living a healthy, well-balanced life and discovered an interest in organic nutrition after becoming a mother.
“I care deeply about the quality of the food I feed my family and what has gone in to bringing it to our table. “

In 2024 the Smola family took their spring family tradition from a small 400 tree operation, to a 10,000 tap dream!
With Jason’s knowledge of the forest and Amy’s passion for bringing whole, organic food to the table they decided to go all in and make their company certified organic with system that required less labor and a lower carbon footprint. They invested in state-of-the-art equipment to make the process more efficient and productive. After much research, hours of studying and building relationships with experts in the industry, they decided to install a steam cooking system. This process lowers the cook time by several hours and makes it almost impossible to burn or waste product. To ensure that their syrup is pure and organic they follow the guidelines provided by their certifier, MOSA, and only use organic products for defoaming and cleaning equipment. The land is closely monitored to make sure the trees are not affected by pesticides or other contaminants.

“We are excited to expand our knowledge, become more innovated and look forward to growing in the maple syrup industry.”-Jason, Amy, Tucyr, Mylo, Jaspyr and Olly
